Native to the nutrient-poor sands of the Guiana Highlands, *Brocchinia reducta* is one of the few bromeliads that has evolved a carnivorous lifestyle to survive its harsh environment. It captures insects using a water-filled tank coated in slippery, ultraviolet-reflective scales, allowing the plant to absorb essential nitrogen directly from its prey.
