Ai Yori Aoshi: Enishi - Miyuki

Ai Yori Aoshi: Enishi, the second season of the anime adaptation based on Kou Fumizuki’s manga series, was produced by J.C.Staff and released in 2003. It continues the story of Kaoru Hanabishi and Aoi Sakuraba, following their efforts to reconcile their complicated family histories with their budding romance. The transition to the Enishi arc allowed the studio to explore more mature narrative beats while maintaining the aesthetic established in the initial 2002 series.

The character design for Miyuki, as with the rest of the cast, was adapted from Fumizuki’s original manga work, which is characterized by a soft, lyrical approach to character expressions and period-inspired attire. The series was designed to evoke a sense of traditional Japanese aesthetic blended with contemporary romantic comedy tropes. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the seinen demographic, noted particularly for its lush background art and steady pacing compared to its more chaotic genre contemporaries.
