Ano Hi no Kanojotachi

Ano Hi no Kanojotachi, or Those Girls on That Day, is a series of short promotional animated spots produced by the studio CloverWorks in 2018. The project was conceived as a collaboration with the Sony Music Entertainment Japan brand to celebrate the studio's rebranding from its origins as a division of A-1 Pictures. By showcasing character vignettes, CloverWorks aimed to demonstrate its artistic versatility and the technical refinement of its animation team during a period of corporate transition.

The creative direction focused on intimate, character-driven storytelling, emphasizing fluid movement and evocative environmental design that became a hallmark of the studio's early solo efforts. Because the series was intended as a visual manifesto for the new studio identity rather than a traditional narrative production, it was met with praise from animation enthusiasts for its high production values and its role in establishing the visual language that would later define CloverWorks' prominent television series.
