Apple Papple Princess

Apple Papple Princess, known in Japan as Ringo no Mori no Fantasy, is a 1983 animated feature produced by NHK. The film was created as a whimsical, musically-driven fantasy intended for a younger audience, reflecting the high production values typical of NHK's animation projects of the era, which often prioritized storytelling and gentle aesthetics over the aggressive commercialism seen in other contemporary children's media.

The character design and visual direction drew heavily from the influential style of late 20th-century Japanese animation, emphasizing soft color palettes and expressive, rounded features. The film is remembered primarily for its distinct melancholic atmosphere and its memorable soundtrack, which have helped it maintain a niche but dedicated following among collectors of retro anime and vintage NHK broadcasting memorabilia.
