Where it came from
The Ascendance of a Bookworm side story OVAs were produced by Ajiado and released in 2020 as a bridge between the show's broadcast seasons. These episodes were designed to adapt specific chapters from the light novel series by Miya Kazuki that did not fit into the primary narrative flow of the main television run. The project aimed to satisfy the dedicated fanbase's desire for further character development and world-building while maintaining the aesthetic continuity of the main anime adaptation.
The design and production were centered on capturing the cozy, methodical atmosphere of the original series, focusing on Myne's scholarly pursuits and interactions within the Ehrenfest kingdom. By concentrating on smaller, self-contained narratives, the studio utilized a more focused creative approach to highlight the series' attention to detail regarding book-making and socio-political dynamics. The OVAs were generally well-received by the established community, serving as a rewarding supplement for viewers invested in the intricate lore of the source material.
