Where it came from
The Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts Hideyoshi Hideyoshi Magic Special was released in 2011 as an original video animation produced by the studio SILVER LINK. This short was created to accompany the franchise's second season, focusing on the character Hideyoshi Kinoshita, who became a breakout fan favorite due to the running gag regarding his ambiguous gender identity and the series' signature meta-humor.
The animation maintains the aesthetic established by the television series, which adapted the light novel light-hearted battle school genre. The character designs, originally by Yui Haga, were animated here to lean into the comedic scenarios centered on Hideyoshi's personal frustrations and the eccentricities of the Fumizuki Academy students. It was received by the audience as a supplemental piece of fan service that solidified the character's unique status within the franchise.
