"You bought me for 50 sacks of rice? Why would you do that?"
"I thought you might end up dead if I didn't."
Hidden deep in the mountains from prying eyes, the burly Bong-chun lives in seclusion.
Bong-chun buys and rescues Sun-gap, a servant boy who is beaten almost to death by his master. Sun-gap is bewildered by Bong-chun, who treats him with unexpected kindness, calling him his wife and not putting him to any hard work.
As Sun-gap begins to enjoy the peace with Bong-chun, feeling relieved to have finally escaped his old master's house, a man appears, claiming he has come to take him back.

Where it came from
Bongchon Gaksi, produced by Laftel, is a short-form animated work that draws heavily from Korean urban legends and folklore. Released as an ONA (Original Net Animation), it serves as an adaptation of the popular webtoon of the same name created by Horang. The production aims to translate the specific aesthetic of the original digital medium into a motion-based format, utilizing sound design and shifting perspectives to build suspense.
The character design and visual direction are deeply rooted in the horror-webtoon genre, characterized by jump-scares and a minimalist but unsettling color palette. By utilizing the ONA format, the studio could experiment with immersive digital horror elements, which were received by audiences as a notable entry in the revitalization of Korean ghost stories for contemporary digital platforms. The project reflects a broader trend in South Korean media of adapting internet-native horror literature for broader streaming distribution.
