Where it came from
The Cinderella Girls Gekijou: 5 Shuunen Kinen Short Anime was released in 2016 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls mobile game. Produced by the studio Gathering, the short served as a bridge between the core game and the subsequent television series, adapting the popular, comedic four-panel manga strips that regularly appeared within the game interface to provide a more lighthearted look at the characters.
The animation was designed to capture the distinct, squashed aesthetic of the original manga panels, prioritizing expressive character interactions over the polished, high-fidelity look of the main game series. This stylistic choice was well-received by the existing player base, as it successfully translated the informal charm and situational humor of the source material into a concise visual format that highlighted the unique personalities of the franchise's expansive roster.
