Control Bear [Wonder Garden]

Control Bear: Wonder Garden was released in 2013 as part of a series of promotional short films featuring the character Control Bear, originally created by the Japanese artist Fumiaki Kouno. These shorts were produced by Studio Colorido, a boutique animation house recognized for its vibrant, imaginative visual storytelling and emphasis on hand-drawn aesthetics. The collaboration aimed to translate Kouno’s minimalist, surreal bear motif—defined by its detachable head—into a whimsical, dialogue-free narrative set within a lush, dreamlike garden environment.

The animation style reflects Studio Colorido’s signature approach, blending fluid character movement with rich, textured backgrounds to evoke a sense of playfulness. By focusing on visual rhythm rather than complex plot, the creators intended to emphasize the gentle, idiosyncratic charm of the character. Upon its debut, the short was well-received by fans of Japanese character design and independent animation, serving as an effective bridge between corporate branding and experimental creative expression.
