When young adventurer Laios and his company are attacked and soundly thrashed by a dragon deep in a dungeon, the party loses all its money and provisions...and a member! They're eager to go back and save her, but there is just one problem: If they set out with no food or coin to speak of, they're sure to starve on the way! But Laios comes up with a brilliant idea: "Let's eat the monsters!" Slimes, basilisks, and even dragons...none are safe from the appetites of these dungeon-crawling gourmands!

Where it came from
Delicious in Dungeon, known in Japan as Dungeon Meshi, originated as a manga series by Ryōko Kui, first serialized in 2014. The anime adaptation was produced by Studio Trigger and premiered in 2024, aiming to translate Kui's unique blend of high-fantasy tropes and culinary procedural elements to the screen. The production team sought to preserve the manga's grounded approach to world-building, where the logistics of monster biology and ecosystem survival drive the narrative forward.
The series was directed by Yoshihiro Miyajima with character designs by Naoki Takeda. The visual aesthetic maintains a balance between traditional fantasy adventure and detailed, mouth-watering depictions of fantasy cuisine. Upon its release, the adaptation was widely praised by critics and audiences alike for its faithful interpretation of the source material's tone and its high-quality animation, which emphasizes the tactical and physiological realities of adventuring within an ever-changing dungeon environment.
