Demon Fighter Kocho

Demon Fighter Kocho, known in Japan as Yoju Toshi Kocho, was released as a two-part original video animation in 1997. Produced during the height of the 1990s anime direct-to-video boom, the series emerged from a market hungry for dark, supernatural-themed animation that blended elements of horror, action, and adult fantasy. It reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of that era, characterized by character-heavy designs and the often-gritty animation styles favored by independent studios working within the ova format.

The production was brought to North American audiences by Media Blasters, a distributor that played a pivotal role in the late 1990s and early 2000s in licensing niche Japanese animation for domestic consumption. The project was designed to capitalize on the popularity of occult action series, featuring a narrative focused on exorcism and supernatural conflict. While it did not reach the mainstream acclaim of larger studio franchises, it remains a documented example of the specialized content curated by Media Blasters during their efforts to establish the anime market in the United States.
