Digimon Adventure tri. Chapter 2: Determination

Digimon Adventure tri. Chapter 2: Determination was released in 2016 as the second installment in a six-part film series created to commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of the original Digimon Adventure television series. Produced by Toei Animation, the project was intended to bridge the gap between the franchise's nostalgic roots and a more mature narrative tone, focusing on the original DigiDestined as they navigate the complexities of adolescence and strained relationships with their partner Digimon.

The film's visual identity was spearheaded by character designer Atsuya Uki, who departed from the iconic aesthetic established by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru in the 1999 original. Uki’s design approach prioritized sleeker, more minimalist lines to reflect the characters' transition into high school. While the stylistic shift initially sparked debate among long-time fans who held an attachment to the classic art style, the production remained a significant commercial effort to revitalize the Digimon brand for a contemporary audience.
