Digimon: Digital Monsters 02

Digimon Adventure 02 was produced by Toei Animation as the direct successor to the original 1999 Digimon Adventure series. Airing in Japan in 2000, the series sought to capitalize on the massive international success of the franchise by introducing a new generation of DigiDestined, incorporating the recurring mechanic of 'Armor Digivolution' alongside traditional evolution to keep the narrative fresh for a younger audience.

The series design team maintained the aesthetic established by character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, whose work defined the franchise's signature blend of anime tropes and monstrous creature design. Upon release, the series was received as a standard extension of the Toei portfolio, noted for its attempt to broaden the franchise's lore through the introduction of the Digital World's darker, more complex origins and the expansion of the human-digital connection.
