Document Taiyou no Kiba Dougram

Document Taiyou no Kiba Dougram was released in 1983 as a cinematic companion to the television series Taiyou no Kiba Dougram, which had concluded its run earlier that year. The film serves primarily as a compilation work, distilling the complex political narrative and mecha action of the original 75-episode series into a condensed theatrical experience, catering to fans who sought a refined perspective on the story of the Deloyer liberation movement.

The production was spearheaded by the animation studio Sunrise, maintaining the distinctive grounded, industrial aesthetic established by series director Ryosuke Takahashi. By eschewing the traditional tropes of the super robot genre in favor of a gritty, military-science fiction tone, the project reflected the era's evolving interest in 'real robot' anime. While primarily a recap, the film was received as a contemplative capstone to the series, celebrated for its focus on the heavy, tactical depiction of mecha and the moral ambiguity of its revolutionary protagonists.
