A new Priestess of Water has arrived! Her name is Qawool Towles, and though she's only 17, everyone (except for Shayla-Shayla) welcomes her with open arms. But during her initiation ceremony, a mysterious entity named Arjah appears and transports them all to an alternate world!
Now, Makoto and the others are stranded all over again in a strange new kingdom called Creteria. It's a bleak, industrial realm ruled by a despot named Dall. If they ever want to make it back to El-Hazard, they'll have to figure out the secret behind an ancient artifact called the Spring of Life. And they'd better do it fast, because the spring seems to be dying...

Where it came from
El Hazard: The Alternative World was produced by AIC and released in 1998 as a 26-episode television series. It serves as a continuation of the El Hazard franchise, which began with the popular 1995 OVA series, The Magnificent World. While the original OVAs were lauded for their cohesive narrative and high production quality, this television series was conceptualized to revisit the fantastical world of El Hazard with a new tone, shifting toward a more episodic and lighthearted structure that diverged from the earlier direct-to-video arcs.
The series design maintained the aesthetic hallmarks established by the AIC creative team, emphasizing vibrant character work and the signature blend of comedic fantasy and adventure. Though it was intended to satisfy the demand for more content within the established universe, it met with mixed reception from fans and critics. Many viewers found the narrative departure and the shift in focus away from the original OVA's serialized storytelling to be a point of contention, leading to a legacy that remains distinct but somewhat separate from the high regard held for the earlier installments.
