Fuuma no Kojirou: Fuuma Hanran-hen

Fuuma no Kojirou: Fuuma Hanran-hen serves as the second installment in the original video animation series based on the popular manga by Masami Kurumada, who is perhaps best known for his work on Saint Seiya. Released in 1991, this production continued the story of the Fuuma clan and their supernatural martial arts battles, moving the franchise into a direct-to-video format that allowed for a more concise, action-focused adaptation of the source material compared to traditional television series.

The visual direction for the OVA was handled by Toei Animation, aiming to capture the dramatic, high-stakes aesthetic that characterized Kurumada's writing in the late 1980s and early 1990s. While the series was developed to satisfy the existing fanbase of the manga, it remains a notable example of the stylized, dark-fantasy action genre prevalent in Japanese animation of that period, reflecting the industry's shift toward the OVA market as a primary venue for niche and cult-classic storytelling.
