In the story, Gaimetal, a metal ore with high amounts of pure energy, was discovered 50,000 meters (160,000 feet) underground in 2047, and mining began all around the world. However, Gaist, metallic lifeforms whose bodies are entirely encrusted with Gaimetal, emerged in 2055 and began attacking people. In 2064, Rekka, Hayato, Kurama, and Siren are among those who suit up in Gaist Gear and battle over 100 varieties of Gaist creatures.

Where it came from
Gaist Crusher was developed as a cross-media project in 2013, initiated by Capcom in collaboration with Studio Pierrot. The series was designed as an ambitious attempt to capture the attention of a younger demographic through a synergy between a portable video game and a complementary anime adaptation. It arrived during a period when Japanese toy-centric animation sought to integrate high-concept metallic armor designs with collectible Gaimetal trinkets, mirroring the success of similar strategy-based hobby franchises.
The animation was produced by Studio Pierrot, known for their work on long-running action titles, and was directed by Yoshiyuki Fujiwara. The series utilized a distinct visual language characterized by elaborate mechanical transformation sequences and vibrant, high-energy character designs intended to translate effectively into physical merchandise. While the franchise struggled to maintain long-term momentum in a competitive market, it remains recognized for its specific intent to blend action-oriented storytelling with the structural mechanics of a toy-driven franchise.
