Garugaku.: Sei Girls Square Gakuin

Garugaku.: Sei Girls Square Gakuin was produced by studio OLM and Wit Studio in 2020 as a multimedia project centered on the Japanese girl group Girls2. The series was designed to serve as both an animated television show and a promotional vehicle for the musical group, bridging the gap between idol culture and narrative-driven animation. Its creation was intended to foster a deeper connection between the audience and the members of the group by portraying them as fictionalized students attending a school for performers.

The animation style and character designs were tailored to reflect the vibrant, high-energy aesthetic of the group, prioritizing a friendly and approachable tone for younger viewers. As part of a larger franchise that includes live-action performances, dance training, and concert events, the series received attention primarily from the existing fanbase of Girls2. It remains a notable example of the trend in modern Japanese media where idol performance groups are integrated directly into long-form animated storytelling.
