Golion, a powerful sentient robot, abuses his great powers by attacking and killing creatures known as Deathblack Beastmen, boasting that no one could defeat him. A divine space being punishes Golion for his arrogance and abuse by seperating him into 5 different lion robots. In the year 1999, a group of 5 young men return to Earth after a space voyage, only to find it ravaged by nuclear war. After encountering the alien race known as the Galra, the 5 youths end up on the planet Altea, and learn that the 5 lion robots that Golion was split into are in hibernation in various parts of Altea. Somehow, they must reunite the lions and form Golion, the only hope for the human race.

Where it came from
GoLion was produced by Toei Animation and debuted in Japan in 1981 as a super robot television series. The narrative follows five space pilots who return to a decimated Earth to fight the Galra Empire using a giant robot composed of five mechanical lions. It emerged during the height of the Japanese robot anime boom, capitalizing on the popularity of combined-mecha designs that allowed for expansive toy lines.
The iconic character design, characterized by the five distinct lions, was conceptualized to appeal to younger audiences while fitting the aesthetic trends of the early eighties. While the original series was noted for its darker, more mature tone compared to its contemporaries, it is internationally recognized primarily for being re-edited and localized as the backbone of the hit series Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which significantly altered the show's reception and cultural legacy globally.
