Gurazeni: Money Pitch

Gurazeni: Money Pitch was produced by Studio DEEN and released in 2018 as an adaptation of the long-running sports manga series by Yuji Moritaka and Keiji Adachi. Unlike traditional sports anime that focus on the glory of competition or the camaraderie of a team, this series was developed to offer a rare, cynical look at the professional business of Japanese baseball. The narrative centers on Natsunosuke Bonda, a relief pitcher who is primarily concerned with his annual salary, providing a grounded perspective on the precarious nature of a career in professional sports.

The character design and visual direction were aimed at capturing the gritty, somewhat unglamorous reality of the protagonist's life, moving away from the heightened idealism found in typical genre works. Upon its release, the series received attention for its unique focus on financial anxiety and the stark power dynamics between players and club management. It is regarded as a niche but significant contribution to the seinen demographic, appreciated for its analytical approach to sports management and the psychological weight of professional performance.
