Hanasaku Iroha ~Blossoms for Tomorrow~

Hanasaku Iroha was produced by P.A. Works and released in 2011 to celebrate the studio's tenth anniversary. The series follows Ohana Matsumae, a teenager who moves to a rural hot spring inn to work for her grandmother. It was created with the intent to capture the intricacies of the hospitality industry and the complexities of growing up, drawing heavily on the authentic atmosphere of the Yunosagi hot spring, which was modeled after the real-world Yuwaku Onsen in Kanazawa.

The series was directed by Masahiro Ando, who aimed for a grounded, character-driven narrative that emphasized personal growth over traditional genre tropes. Character designs were provided by Mel Kishida, whose delicate and expressive art style became a signature element of the show. Upon its release, the series received significant critical acclaim for its visual quality and sincere storytelling, eventually spawning a successful feature film and continuing to serve as a landmark title for P.A. Works.
