Where it came from
Hatsukoi Limited was produced by J.C.Staff and aired in 2009 as an adaptation of the manga series by Mizuki Kawashita. The story centers on the intertwined romantic experiences of various middle school and high school students, maintaining the lighthearted yet earnest tone characteristic of the shonen romance genre during that era. It emerged during a period when J.C.Staff was prolific in adapting character-driven manga into television anime, focusing on the comedic and emotional complexities of first loves.
The character designs for the anime were handled by Tomoyuki Shitaya, who adapted Kawashita’s original aesthetic for the screen. The production aimed to capture the distinct, delicate art style of the manga while navigating the challenges of portraying a large, interconnected ensemble cast. While the series was received as a standard entry in the romance subgenre, it is noted by fans for its faithfulness to the source material's gentle progression and its traditional visual presentation.
