Where it came from
Hi Hai Ho was produced by NHK as a segment within their long-running educational children’s program, Okaasan to Issho (With Mother). Developed in the late 20th century, the segment was designed to foster early childhood development through rhythmic movement and simple musical engagement, aligning with the station’s mission to provide wholesome, structured entertainment for preschool audiences.
The segment featured a minimalist visual style characteristic of NHK’s educational efforts during that era, emphasizing clarity and ease of imitation for young viewers. The choreography and visual presentation were guided by staff producers and child psychologists working within the NHK studio system, aiming to create a reliable, soothing routine that could be easily internalized by the target demographic.
