In the story, a legendary powerful team called Mugen once dominated a town. The group faced resistance from the formidable Amamiya Brothers, the only ones willing and powerful enough to not give in. In the end, Mugen suddenly disbanded and the Amamiya Brothers disappeared without a trace. Afterward, a group of five gangs — Sannoh Hoodlum Squad, White Rascals, Oya High School, Rude Boys, and Daruma Ikka — take over, calling themselves "G-SWORD" and naming the area "SWORD" after their gang names.

Where it came from
HiGH&LOW g-sword is a short-form animated spin-off derived from the expansive HiGH&LOW media franchise, which began as a television drama series in 2015. Released in 2017, the series was designed to adapt the intense, turf-war dynamics of the live-action project into a stylized, comedic format, providing fans with a lighter, chibi-inspired perspective on the complex rivalries between the various gangs of S.W.O.R.D. district.
The character designs were illustrated by the manga artist CLAMP, known for their distinct aesthetic and intricate style. By reimagining the gritty, masculine characters of the original series through a whimsical lens, CLAMP sought to bridge the gap between the franchise's dark action roots and its dedicated fanbase, creating a unique visual crossover that was received as a lighthearted expansion of the franchise's lore.
