Matthew is just another parasite in the chaotic dungeon city of Gray Neighbor. People say he's a lazy weakling who gambles and drinks away all the money he gets from his keeper, princess knight Arwin. But the truth is, no one in this town knows what he's really like—a ruthless protector who works in the shadows and will do whatever it takes for the sake of his mistress.

Where it came from
Himekishi-sama no Himo, produced by Studio BLADE and released in 2027, emerged as part of the studio's broader efforts to adapt contemporary light novel narratives for television. The series was developed during a period when fantasy subgenres involving power-dynamic inversions saw a notable increase in production, reflecting a trend of mixing traditional high-fantasy tropes with character-driven domestic comedy.
The production design aimed to balance the visual language of heroic fantasy with the aesthetic sensibilities common in mid-2020s late-night anime. By focusing on the juxtaposition between the titular knight's authoritative role and the more casual, informal circumstances of the premise, the studio intended to lean into the character archetypes popular among their demographic. Upon release, the series was received as a standard entry in the studio's catalog, evaluated primarily for its adherence to the pacing and visual standards established by its source material.
