Hortensia SAGA

Hortensia Saga originated as a free-to-play mobile tactical role-playing game developed by f4samurai and published by Sega in 2015. Set in the Kingdom of Hortensia, a nation enjoying peace after a century of turmoil, the story centers on the political collapse that follows a rebellion. The anime adaptation was produced by studio LIDENFILMS to commemorate the game's fifth anniversary, aiming to condense the sprawling narrative of the original game into a structured twelve-episode television format.

Directed by Yasuto Nishikata, the series features character designs by Takayuki Onoda, who sought to translate the game's distinctive illustrative style into a cohesive animated form. While the series maintains the high-fantasy aesthetic and core political intrigue of the source material, it received a mixed reception from critics and fans. Many viewers noted the challenge of adapting a non-linear mobile game narrative into a traditional television structure, leading to a focus on the core conflict between the protagonist Alfred Ober and the shifting loyalties within the kingdom.
