Where it came from
Released in 2014, these special episodes were produced as a companion to the anime adaptation of I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job. The original light novel series, written by Jun Sakyou and illustrated by Masaki Inuzuma, gained popularity for its comedic take on the fantasy genre, shifting the focus from epic battles to the mundane frustrations of retail work in a magical world.
The animation for the series was handled by studio Asread. The specials were designed to expand upon the lighthearted, slice-of-life humor found in the core series, maintaining the aesthetic established by the television broadcast. While the show faced a mixed critical reception regarding its pacing and fanservice elements, these specials were intended to provide additional character vignettes for the dedicated audience that followed Raul Chaser’s transition from hero-in-training to appliance store clerk.
