Where it came from
Jisshuusei, or The Intern, was released in 2002 as an adult-oriented original video animation. It emerged during a period when the market for direct-to-video animation in Japan was heavily focused on niche erotic narratives, often utilizing established artistic tropes of the early 2000s to explore workplace dynamics and character-driven scenarios.
The animation reflects the aesthetic standards typical of its era, characterized by modest budget constraints and a focus on character design that prioritized the stylistic norms favored by the adult animation industry at the time. It was produced primarily for a domestic Japanese audience, functioning as a representative example of the commercial OVA landscape of the early 21st century rather than a critically acclaimed artistic movement.
