Where it came from
Jungle de Ikou! was released as a three-part original video animation series in 1997, produced by Movic and animated by studio Bee Media. Emerging during a peak period for the slapstick fantasy subgenre in the 1990s, the series was designed to blend high-energy comedy with supernatural elements, centering on a young man who inadvertently summons a powerful forest goddess. The project fits into the era's trend of offbeat, character-driven anime shorts that prioritized whimsical visual gags and lighthearted chaos over complex narrative arcs.
The character designs were overseen by creative teams aiming for a distinct aesthetic that balanced traditional adventure tropes with the over-the-top expressive style common to mid-nineties OVA productions. While the series was developed primarily for a niche audience of home video enthusiasts, it remains recognized today as a quintessential example of the experimental and playful spirit that characterized Movic’s direct-to-video catalog during that decade.
