Kekkaku Yobou

Kekkaku Yobou, or Tuberculosis Prevention, is a Japanese public health educational film produced in the mid-20th century. These films were commissioned by the Japanese government and public health organizations during a period when tuberculosis remained a critical concern for national welfare and productivity. They were designed as instructional tools to be screened in schools, workplaces, and community centers to promote hygiene, early detection, and the necessity of medical treatment.

The production of such films often involved collaboration with social documentary filmmakers who aimed to translate complex medical guidelines into accessible visual narratives. While these items are rarely credited to individual auteur directors, they reflect the minimalist, utilitarian aesthetic common to post-war Japanese instructional media. They were received primarily as civic instruments rather than cinema, serving as vital artifacts of the era's state-led initiatives to improve public health standards.
