Where it came from
Kesshouban: Eigakan e Iku, titled Platelets: Go to the Cinema, is a short special episode produced by David Production in 2020. It was created as part of the promotional material for the Cells at Work! franchise, which anthropomorphizes human biological processes into a bustling city of characters. The special was released to help bridge the gap between the first season and the subsequent anime adaptations, maintaining the series' signature blend of educational biology and character-driven comedy.
The character design for the Platelets follows the original aesthetic established by Akane Shimizu in her manga series. By casting these essential blood-clotting cells as small, industrious children wearing oversized uniforms, the design team aimed to make complex physiological functions feel approachable and endearing to a general audience. The special was received positively by fans of the franchise, who appreciated the familiar, whimsical style that David Production consistently maintained throughout their work on the series.
