Where it came from
The Kill Me Baby OVA was released in 2013 as a continuation of the anime adaptation of Kaduho's four-panel comedy manga, which began serialization in 2008. Produced by J.C.Staff, the project followed the 2012 television series that centered on the eccentric daily life of a high school girl named Sonya, a trained assassin, and her overly persistent friend Yasuna. The OVA was designed to offer fans additional slapstick segments that maintained the minimalist, absurdist aesthetic of the original source material.
The animation and character design for the franchise were directed by Yoshiki Yamakawa, who aimed to emphasize the stark, rhythmic comedic timing characteristic of the manga. While the initial television run garnered a niche cult following for its unconventional pacing and memorable ending theme, the OVA serves as a supplementary piece for dedicated enthusiasts of the series' specific brand of surreal, low-stakes violence. It remains a notable example of early 2010s gag-manga anime adaptations.
