Where it came from
The Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia (Insomniacs After School) special animation PV was produced by LIDENFILMS to celebrate the release and thematic essence of Makoto Ojiro’s celebrated manga series. Released ahead of the 2023 television anime adaptation, this short promotional work was designed to capture the delicate, nocturnal atmosphere of the original source material. It utilizes a soft, evocative visual style to mirror the manga’s emphasis on the quiet, intimate connection between the two protagonists as they navigate their shared sleeplessness in the city of Nanao.
The animation direction reflects the studio's commitment to adapting Ojiro’s meticulous depiction of stargazing and urban landscapes. By focusing on lighting and the subtle interactions between the characters, the creative team sought to convey the series' meditative tone before the full-length series premiered. It was well-received by fans of the manga for its faithful translation of the story's gentle pacing and artistic sensibility, effectively serving as both a marketing piece and a standalone mood board for the anime's overarching aesthetic.
