Where it came from
Kita e.: PURE SESSION was released in 2000 as a two-episode original video animation spin-off from the broader Kita e. project, a multimedia franchise developed by Hudson Soft. The series was designed to showcase the beauty of Hokkaido through the eyes of its protagonist, Kenji, blending elements of travelogue with romantic drama. The animation was produced by Studio Fantasia, focusing on soft, atmospheric visuals intended to evoke the specific charm of the northern Japanese landscape.
The reception of the PURE SESSION OVA was largely tied to the niche appeal of the Kita e. brand, which aimed to revitalize regional tourism through anime aesthetics. While it did not reach mainstream commercial heights, it is remembered by collectors as a distinct artifact of the early 2000s experimental cross-media initiatives, characterized by its gentle pacing and dedicated commitment to its Hokkaido-themed narrative roots.
