Where it came from
Koi ni Naritai AQUARIUM is the second single released by the fictional school idol group Aqours, central to the multimedia project Love Live! Sunshine!!. Released in April 2016, the song and its accompanying animated music video were produced by Lantis as part of the group's early narrative development. The project itself was launched as a successor to the highly successful Love Live! School Idol Project, aiming to replicate its transmedia success by integrating music, animation, and character-driven storytelling.
The visual aesthetic and choreography of the piece were developed by the creative team at Sunrise, utilizing a vibrant, marine-inspired theme to reflect the coastal setting of Uchiura. The track was composed by Kousuke Saitou, better known as Kato Tatsumi, and features a bright, upbeat pop arrangement intended to showcase the distinct vocal styles of the nine members. Upon its release, it was well-received by the franchise's fanbase, particularly for its polished animation and the way it expanded the lore of the Aqours members beyond their initial introductory songs.
