In a mix of Field of Dreams and Ping Pong Club, sex-starved teenage boys at Kudo High School sign up for the girls' volleyball team hoping that if they build it, the girls will come, to a year that has no girls in it at all.

Where it came from
Kougyou Aika Volley Boys is an original video animation series released in the late 1990s, adapted from the manga by Minori Murata. Produced by J.C. Staff, the project emerged during a period when the studio was gaining prominence for its diverse output in the comedy and sports genres. The narrative centers on a delinquent-prone high school volleyball team, leaning heavily into slapstick humor and the rowdy, subversive tone characteristic of the era's gag manga adaptations.
The animation reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of mid-90s OVA production, prioritizing character expression and comedic timing over hyper-realistic sports depiction. Designed to capitalize on the cult popularity of the original source material, the series was received as a niche entry in the sports-comedy subgenre. It is recognized primarily by enthusiasts of 90s animation for its distinct departure from the more earnest tone found in typical sports anime of the time.
