After several years in the military, Rain Yashima has grown impatient and frustrated. The Japanese army was not going on the offensive at all, and there was an overwhelming difference in the level of weaponry between them and the enemy army, the Seventh. At this rate, it would only be a matter of time before they lost the war, let alone overturn their inferior position.
Then a ray of hope landed on Rain's doorstep. In her hands is the power to judge history, and in her hands is the power to weave history. The girl abandons her womanhood and vows to fight as steel. Now, Yashima Rain's lonely war begins.

Where it came from
Koutetsu no Vendetta Episode 0 was released in 2013 as an original net animation produced by Studio Ankama. It originated during a period when the studio, primarily known for the successful Wakfu series, was experimenting with different aesthetic styles and narrative tones. The episode serves as a standalone promotional short, intended to showcase the studio's technical capabilities in combining traditional 2D animation with industrial, mecha-inspired character designs.
The production was characterized by a distinct departure from the softer, fantasy-oriented art style typically associated with the studio's flagship properties. By leaning into a grittier, high-contrast mechanical aesthetic, the design team sought to appeal to enthusiasts of the classic mecha genre. While it remains a niche entry in the studio's filmography, it is often cited by animation scholars as a key example of Ankama's ability to pivot between vastly different visual genres to test new creative pipelines.
