Once a year prestigious Rikkyouin High School has a lottery to determine the next year's Student Council membership. On their first day of school Chihiro Enomoto wins the presidency while his childhood friend Tokino Akiyama picks the vice-president's ticket. There is one catch though, they must first pass a one year apprenticeship under the current Student Council and any failure to perform the tasks assigned, however minor, will result in immediate expulsion from the school.

Where it came from
Kujibiki♥Unbalance originated as a fictional anime-within-an-anime featured in the series Genshiken. Due to the popularity of the concept, the fictional show was developed into a standalone OVA series and eventually this 2006 television adaptation produced by studio Ajiado. The series was designed to function as a parody of stereotypical shonen and school-life anime tropes, leaning heavily into absurdist humor and situational irony.
The 2006 television production was directed by Tsutomu Mizushima, a filmmaker known for his ability to balance comedic timing with character-driven narratives. His approach aimed to elevate the source material beyond simple parody by giving the exaggerated characters genuine, albeit frantic, emotional stakes. Upon its release, the series was received by audiences as a meta-textual curiosity, praised primarily by fans of the original Genshiken series who appreciated the self-aware commentary on otaku culture.
