In the near future, Earth has been devastated by an immense war. Haruka, one of the few survivors, lives in the ruins of Japan. Knowing no other survivors, she lives with five robots. Spike, the youngest robot, serves as her best friend, Cleric advises her, and Angela destroys her enemies.
With Toriga, the world's angriest and least effective combat robot, and Reeves, the meanest-looking machine ever to wear a frilly pink apron, they protect her and search for other survivors.

Where it came from
Kurogane Communication was produced in 1998 by Studio APPP, emerging during a period of experimentation within the post-apocalyptic anime genre. The series adapts a light novel by Dai Sato and tells the story of Haruka, a young girl living in a desolate world populated only by robots. It was conceived as a contemplative exploration of isolation and the bond between humanity and artificial intelligence, steering away from typical action-oriented tropes of the era.
The production utilized a distinct visual style that prioritized atmosphere and character development over complex animation sequences. While it did not reach the broad commercial visibility of contemporary blockbuster series, it was noted by critics for its melancholic tone and its introspective approach to science fiction. The project reflects the late-nineties trend of exploring digital personhood and the search for connection in barren environments.
