After Yang Wen-li successfully captures the Iserlohn Fortress, the Free Planets Alliance grows bolder in its militaristic ambitions. With recent incursions into Galactic Empire territory and the possession of a perfect beachhead, the Alliance is now able to deal significant damage to the Empire. However, Reinhard von Lohengramm has no intention of allowing the Free Planets Alliance to gain a foothold. He is adamant about carrying on his best friend Siegfried Kircheis' dearest wish: to be the one to unite the universe.
As wide-scale military clashes continue, the opportunist Adrian Rubinsky, Fezzan's ambitious leader, attempts to take advantage of the war to further his personal goals.

Where it came from
Die Neue These - Intrigue serves as the fourth season of the modern reimagining of Yoshiki Tanaka's seminal space opera, Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Produced by Production I.G and released in 2022, this iteration was designed to introduce the intricate political maneuvering and expansive tactical warfare of the original 1980s novels to a contemporary audience, while maintaining the philosophical gravitas that defines the series.
Under the direction of Shunsuke Tada, the visual design emphasizes a shift toward clean, high-definition character models and sophisticated digital effects, intended to highlight the stark contrast between the democratic Free Planets Alliance and the autocratic Galactic Empire. The production team sought to balance tactical realism with high-stakes character drama, a stylistic choice that has generally been praised by critics for successfully modernizing the dense narrative without stripping away its epic, operatic scale.
