Where it came from
The LIP×LIP FILM×LIVE mini anime was produced by Studio CLAP and released in 2020 as a creative project centered on the virtual idol duo LIP×LIP, a group originating from the HoneyWorks multimedia franchise. The project served as a specialized cinematic showcase designed to bridge the gap between music performance and narrative storytelling, capitalizing on the popularity of the duo’s vocaloid-inspired aesthetic and their expansive backstory within the HoneyWorks cinematic universe.
The production sought to emphasize high-fidelity character animation and the immersive experience of a live concert environment, reflecting the group's intent to position virtual idols within a professionalized anime framework. By integrating performance footage with brief character segments, the mini anime was received primarily by the franchise's existing fan base as a companion piece to their full-length feature film, helping to solidify the duo’s identity as both musical performers and animated protagonists.
