LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW Shin Project

Lollipop Chainsaw was released in 2012 as an action-comedy hack-and-slash game, developed by Grasshopper Manufacture under the direction of Suda51. The project was conceived as a stylized, hyper-kinetic homage to B-movie horror and American high school tropes, centered on Juliet Starling, a cheerleader who hunts zombies. The game’s visual identity, heavily influenced by the work of filmmaker James Gunn who co-wrote the script, aimed for a vibrant, pop-art aesthetic that subverted traditional survival horror expectations through irreverent humor and an eclectic soundtrack.

The Shin Project refers to the 2024 remake titled Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, which sought to modernize the original experience for contemporary hardware. This initiative was led by Dragami Games, the publisher behind the original title, following a desire to preserve the cult classic for a new generation of players. While the remake includes quality-of-life adjustments and an updated visual engine, the development team focused on maintaining the core spirit and distinctive camp aesthetic that established the original game’s status as a polarizing but memorable entry in the Grasshopper Manufacture catalog.
