On February 28, ONE PIECE took over Crypto.com Arena for a special game night collab event with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers ended up taking down their opponents in a close 106-102 game, and maybe some of that juice is thanks to the presence of the Straw Hats and a special piece of animation created for the event.
The anime short—which depicts a Lakers uniform-clad Luffy in an intense basketball match against a team of Marines—can be seen in all its 30 seconds of glory. Can our captain Luffy take home the win?

Where it came from
The Los Angeles Lakers x One Piece collaboration emerged in 2025 as a strategic cultural crossover between the iconic National Basketball Association franchise and Eiichiro Oda’s globally influential manga series. Created to commemorate the intersection of sports heritage and Japanese animation culture, the partnership aimed to broaden the Lakers' reach into the global fandom of the Straw Hat Pirates, utilizing the aesthetic bridge of team colors and pirate-themed imagery.
The design of this special collection emphasizes a fusion of Lakers branding—notably the purple and gold palette—with stylized motifs inspired by the One Piece narrative, such as the iconic Jolly Roger and specific character-driven iconography. Developed as a limited lifestyle release, the line was received as a significant milestone in the ongoing trend of high-profile corporate crossovers, signaling a shift toward more thematic, narrative-heavy sports apparel design that appeals equally to casual fans and dedicated collectors.
