loTus feat. Pt. Ajay Pohankar

Released as part of the fusion movement in Indian classical music, this project represents a creative collaboration between the electronic-ambient collective known as iTus and the venerable Hindustani classical vocalist Pt. Ajay Pohankar. The work was conceived to bridge the gap between traditional khyal vocal stylings and contemporary global soundscapes, utilizing synthesized textures and rhythmic patterns to provide a modern frame for Pohankar’s intricate melodic improvisations.

The production approach focused on preserving the integrity of the raga structure while inviting a wider, perhaps younger, international audience to engage with classical Indian motifs. Critically, the release was seen as a bold experiment in genre-blending, often discussed by musicologists as a successful attempt to modernize the classical aesthetic without sacrificing the meditative depth expected of a performer with Pohankar’s distinguished lineage.
