Lycoris Recoil (Shinsaku Animation)

Lycoris Recoil emerged in 2022 as an original television anime series produced by A-1 Pictures. It was conceived as an action-focused character drama, centered on the daily lives and dangerous missions of teenage girls who work as clandestine agents in Tokyo. The project was helmed by director Shingo Adachi, who sought to blend high-stakes tactical sequences with the nuanced, grounded interactions often found in slice-of-life storytelling.

The character designs were crafted by artist Imigimuru, known for a clean, expressive aesthetic that emphasizes mobility and personality. Upon its release, the series garnered significant critical attention for its fluid animation, particularly during its kinetic action set pieces, and for the chemistry between its two central protagonists. It was broadly well-received by the animation community, leading to the development of additional narrative content and spin-off media.
