When Revenge of Cronos left off, Rom and Leina had crossed a dimensional barrier. Their physical forms changed from robot to human and they were separated with blurred memories. Leina Stol is now incarnated as Leina Haruka, a Japanese schoolgirl. As the story progresses, she meets up with Rod Drill, Blue Jet, Triple Jim, and Rom; all of whom are now human.

Where it came from
Released in 1988, Leina: The Legend of Wolf Blade serves as an original video animation spin-off from the Machine Robo anime series. Produced by Ashi Productions, the project was intended to shift the tone of the franchise away from the standard transformable robot toy-tie-in formula toward a more character-driven fantasy narrative, focusing on the character Leina Stol as she traverses a surreal world.
The animation design reflects the transition in 1980s anime aesthetics, moving toward more stylized, ethereal visual compositions. While the series struggled to reconcile its action-figure roots with its new experimental, almost dreamlike storytelling approach, it has since attained a dedicated cult following among collectors of 80s OVA curiosities who appreciate its unique departure from the mechanical-heavy roots of the original Machine Robo line.
