Macross Delta

Macross Delta was produced by Satelight and premiered in 2016 as the fourth major television installment in the storied Macross science fiction franchise. Created to celebrate the series' history while introducing a fresh musical direction, the narrative focuses on the tactical sound unit Walküre, a group of idols tasked with using their voices to quell a mysterious phenomenon known as the Vár syndrome. The series sought to blend high-stakes aerial mecha combat with the pop-idol performance themes that have defined the franchise since the original 1982 series.

The production was spearheaded by director Kenji Yasuda and chief director Shoji Kawamori, the latter being the original creator and primary mechanical designer of the Macross universe. Kawamori aimed to integrate energetic J-pop music as a core component of the plot, rather than just background accompaniment. Upon its release, the series garnered attention for its vibrant visual style and ambitious musical integration, solidifying its place within the broader Macross canon while attracting a new generation of fans to the long-running space opera saga.
