Magic Tree House

The 2012 Magic Tree House film is a feature-length anime adaptation based on the long-running children's book series by Mary Pope Osborne. Produced by Media Factory and animated by Ajia-do Animation Works, the project was developed for the Japanese market to coincide with the immense popularity of the books in the region, which had been translated and localized with significant success. The film focuses on the central narrative arc of the first few books, aiming to capture the educational wonder and historical adventure that defined the original literary source material.

Directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori, the film was designed to blend traditional 2D character aesthetics with cinematic scope, attempting to translate the intimate prose of Osborne's writing into a visual medium suitable for families. While it was released with much anticipation in Japan, it received a modest critical reception, with many noting its faithful adherence to the tone of the books while observing the challenge of condensing multiple episodic stories into a single cohesive feature film.
