Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha: Reflection

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha: Reflection was released in 2017 as the third feature-length film in the long-running magical girl franchise. Originally stemming from a spin-off of the Triangle Heart visual novel series, the Nanoha universe shifted significantly with this film by introducing an alternate-timeline reimagining of the series' events, focusing on the backstory of the Florian family. The production was spearheaded by Seven Arcs Pictures, with character designs by Kana Hashidate, who aimed to modernize the aesthetic while maintaining the high-octane, tactical aerial combat sequences for which the franchise is well-regarded.

This specific release from Discotek Media brought the film to North American audiences, serving as a critical entry in their catalog of specialized anime licensing. Upon its debut, the film was received as a bridge between the classic magical girl tropes of the early 2000s and the more mature, science-fiction-infused direction the series had taken in its later installments. It is often noted by enthusiasts for its polished animation quality and its role in re-contextualizing the emotional stakes of the series' core protagonists.
