Where it came from
Released in 1993, Minky Momo: Akogare no Yume he, Magokoro no Duo serves as an original video animation that continues the legacy of the magical girl genre established by Ashi Productions in the early 1980s. Following the success of the original television series, this project was conceived to revisit the iconic character of Minky Momo for a nostalgic audience, blending fantasy elements with the slice-of-life storytelling that defined the studio's aesthetic during the late 80s and early 90s.
The animation design reflects the transition in artistic styles within the studio, moving away from the more angular character models of the initial run toward the softer, rounder features popular in the 90s OVA market. While received primarily by a dedicated niche of magical girl enthusiasts, the production is noted for its effort to modernize Momo's transformation sequences and narrative depth, remaining a significant entry for collectors interested in the evolution of the mahou shoujo genre during the golden age of original animation.
